"A very practical and easy to operate vented LP gas heater. Love the unit."

We went from an unvented LP gas space heater to a Vented Rinnai heater. The Rinnai heater far exceeds my expectations and is so much more efficient than our old non-vented heater.

"Excellent quality device"

I did a lot of research before settling on the 8000btu direct-vented Rinnai propane heater. Honestly, for the ones I could find, it had no real contenders. We live in a tiny house (204 square feet, 10.5 feet tall), and this has been the perfect complement to our climate-control systems. It only required a 3 1/8" wall penetration (most others required 6" on up). In a tiny house (with unique framing within the walls), this is absolutely essential It had an 80-82% AFUE rating (seemed to vary depending on the site I checked), the highest of all options, meaning it has the best propane-used-to-heating ratio of all the options I could find. It had an excellent-quality, very sensitive thermostat that performs beautifully (though I do wish a little bit that it allowed me to set it in 1 degree increments, instead of 2 degree). It runs extremely cool; even the point where the heat comes out only measures at a surface temperature of about 160 while running, and the rest of the enclosure stays around 70 - 80 degrees. This makes clearances on all sides quite modest, eliminates any danger from accidental contact, and no doubt contributes to its longevity. It had the best warranty of any other option I evaluated. Its many internal fans help distribute heat very well. This 8000btu unit is rated for a room up to about 300 square feet, which is quite a bit better than comparable heaters. It can heat to a fine-grained degree, providing variable heating as the room needs, rather than running all-or-nothing. This enables it to use less propane and to modulate room temperature with more sensitivity. It runs very quietly; the fans sound like they're of a really good quality. It does not need to maintain a pilot light, since it has an electric ignition system. This reduces its passive propane consumption. The downside to this is that the electric igniter makes a sharp click when it cycles on. This is the only unpleasant noise this device makes. My only real complaint is that it's quite large for an 8000 btu unit. This replaced a Big Buddy propane, vent-less heater we were using previously, which could output 18,000 btus of heat, at less than 1/2 the size. However, it appears that most direct-vented heaters are similarly large, since they need space to separate and then separately vent the undesirable gases (carbon monoxide, water vapor, and irritating nitrogen gas) from the heat within the combustion chamber. Honestly, the price premium for it was pretty modest, maybe an extra $300 - $400. For the features, I couldn't be more pleased. It's worth every penny of that premium.

Quality is excellent but my only slight disappointment is that it doesn’t seem to produce rated heat.

"Purchasing this heater for our bedroom has proved to be an excellent decision"

We like that it is compact and provides an even flow of heat. We also like that it has an easily accessible water tray for humidity control. You can definitely hear the unit click on and off and would rather not hear that especially during the night. We're new to using propane/gas for heating. It appears that it's an efficient heater. Overall, we're very pleased.

"It gets the job done. I wish there was some way it would work in a default fashion without electricity being needed to start the machine. I worry that if the electricity goes out and we have a long cold spell, that we couldn't heat the house. The only true solution is a $7,000 generator."
