"Nice heater, great for quick heat"
uconn fan Apr 12, 2022
We bought one, and then bought a second one. We use them as a secondary heat source to warm up a couple of rooms as needed that don't get as much heat as needed from our primary heat source. They heat up the areas quickly. The only issue I have, which I didn't anticipate, was since we bought the style that don't have a pilot light, they do make a little noise when generating the spark that will ignite the flame. That's fine, but sometimes at night when I'm falling asleep, it can wake me up. I've gotten more use to it and it doesn't bother my wife at all. I am a light sleeper. I chose the pilotless model because it was more efficient.

"Little heater...huge results!!"
Great Heater! Mar 17, 2022
I love this ventless heater for our small cabin! I installed it late fall and haven't had it above 64 degrees on the coldest day we've had up in northern MN! -37!!
Very efficient! Only reason I don't five it a 5 star rating is because it will not go below 60° for a setting. I can set it to turn off 2X per day witch is what I will need to do to maximize efficiency, but for the time being I have to set it to L and then my backup electric heater has to do the work. Just can't justify having the cabin at 60° when no one is there. 40-45° is plenty. That is the only thing that I would love to have changed!!!

"Rinnai FC824P - Best LPG heater I've ever owned."
Yellowhorse Mar 9, 2022
I've been using propane heaters for over 4 decades. Most of them have been radiant but a couple were the 'blue flame' type. Yes, all of them worked the way they were suppose to but safety concerns prompted me to rethink what I was using for heat. I wanted something with no exposed flames or super hot ceramic plates that would easily start a fire if it came into contact with ... whatever. After extensive research on portable/fixed forced air LPG heaters, I chose the Rinnai FC824P. Yes, it costs a lot more than almost all the other brands but it has a lot going for it. Virtually every LPG heater I've owned in the past (no point in naming the other brands) was made in China. That, in and of itself, isn't an inherently bad thing but now that I've stepped up to heaters that are easily an order of magnitude better, I realize what pieces of dangerous and poorly made junk they were/are.
The FC824P I picked up is an amazingly well built unit that is cool to the touch and produces heat more efficently than any of the radiant or convection heaters I used previously. It is a forced air unit and the fan moves the heat from the combustion chamber very quickly and quietly. I couldn't be more pleased with the performance of this heater. This is my first LPG heater that requires electricity to run. Using electricity (15-25 watts) comes with some perks such as digital displays, timers and it even tells you when to clean the filters. The only con to this type of heater is that when the power fails, the unit stops working and you lose all the settings. Not a big deal. I have it connected to a 1500VAC UPS so the heater never sees a power fluctuation and the UPS will run it for a full 20 hours by itself. If the power is down for more than a few hours I simply start up the generator. That said, I do have a pair of 'true' catalytic propane heaters (also expensive) for backup that require no electricity. I take not freezing to death seriously.
When the heater arrived I had it set up within 30 minutes. Don't forget to use 'gas rated' yellow thread sealant and NOT the white stuff used for plumbing. Before firing it up I did the mandatory 'leak tests' on the fittings and lines. I found a leak but you will never guess where. There is a 3/4 inch F/F shutoff valve that comes with the unit. You don't have to use it but I did because it makes sense. The leak was coming from the stem of the knob used to open/close the valve. I've never seen or heard of that happening before - but it happened. After contacting Rinnai Tech Support (a little difficult to get to) and explained what I found they sent me a replacement part right away which worked perfectly with no leaks. Kudos to Rinnai Tech Support. Hard to put a price on good customer support but that's what I got.
In all probability, I will be picking up a second FC824P to put in my garage this Fall. I would not hesitate to recommend Rinnai products to anybody.

"Little in size yet big on heat"
Inthewoods2021 Nov 15, 2021
I had it installed 3 months ago to be a back up heater for an Empire unit. Except for the buzzing sound at the point of ignition, it is whisper quiet and delivers a lot of heat. I decided to use as it as my primary heater. Not sure how Rinai manages to make the unit carbon monoxide safe without exhausting its combustion gases to the outside. I have multiple carbon monoxide detectors in the space being heated and none of them detects any harmful gas. It simply works.

"Gassy smell when running"
Jake Nov 12, 2021
We've been running this heater for about 3 weeks now. From the beginning, we have been smelling a slight odor of gas coming from it. We are wondering how efficiently it is actually burning. We feel we need to purchase a propane gas detector to find out. Rinnae has been very unhelpful throughout the whole installation and troubleshooting process. They couldn't give me an adequate installer within reasonable distance and at a reasonable cost, then, when I called about the smell, they couldn't give me a Rinnae technician who could come out and troubleshoot this--even though the potential leak is coming from the unit, not from the installation and piping. It has been very disappointing trying to deal with Rinnae. Now we are at a loss as to what to do because we don't know whether we are getting poisoned by the ventless heater or not and Rinnae doesn't seem to want to help.

"Alternate Heat Source for 1,900 sq ft home"
ShellyC Nov 6, 2021
We purchased this unit as an alternate heat source to our wood burning stove for our 1996 Horton 27' x 68' mobile home. It was installed this spring in preparation for the 2021/2022 heating season. Our mobile home is laid out like a split ranch with the main rooms (kitchen, dining and family rooms/entry way) in the center with 2 bedrooms, a bath and a laundry room at one end and a master suite including bedroom, large walk in closet and huge bathroom on the other end. The unit was placed centrally in the family room and the main living space has cathedral ceilings. We planned to use this unit mostly at the start and end of the heating season to knock off that chill in the morning so we didn't have to start a fire in the wood stove and to use if we had to leave the home for extended periods of time, such as would be too long to keep a fire going (like a day or more). So far this unit has far exceeded our expectations. I love the timer feature. I have a timer set for 4am and when I get up at 5am, the entire house is warm and toasty, including the wood and vinyl floors which are all throughout the house. Even the master bath which is at the far end is cozy enough to take your morning shower. We are extremely pleased with it and highly recommend this unit.
