"Rinnai Review"

Delaware Retiree Jul 20, 2022

We moved into our new house in Oct'21. Our tankless Rinnai water heater (located in crawl space) works fast & decently when the source of the faucet is closest to the Rinnai tank (e.g. bathroom & shower). However, when the faucet is far away from the tank, we didn't get any hot water for over 2-3 minutes (e.g. our kitchen sink), and ended up installing a small 2.5-gallon Bosch hot water tank under our sink to get instantaneous hot water for the kitchen sink. So be sure that your tankless Rinnai water heater is large enough for your house (ours is too small), and that faucets farthest from the tank may take a while (e.g. minutes) to get warm/hot water.

"Endless hot water(eventually)"

I purchased the tankless hot water heater approx. 1 year ago. I am pleased with the performance of it so far. But the initial switch over was a big adjustment to get use to not having hot water instantly. Now that we have adjusted, we could not be happier! No more cold showers!

Like it is tankless. Do not like how long it takes to get hot water .

Works great and never fails to heat water for as much as you need. On-demand supply means not having to use natural gas to keep a tank heated and ultimately saves energy and money.

"Heater always turns on when tap opened irrespective cold or hot water"

Hot water comes very late. It’s makes noise intermittently without any tap opened. Always turns on if I open cold water as well. I think some settings need to be adjusted.

"Rinnai unit produces hot water as long as you don't want 140 degree hot - then it overheats and shuts down"

My home builder (Taylor Morrison) installed the unit in my attic. The problem is this - I like to set the water temp to 140 but when I do, the unit overheats and shuts down. Never had a problem like this with the old stlye hot water heater and am not sure I'll continue with tankless.

I am having a huge problem getting hot water to my kitchen sink. Takes forever and is never really hot.

"New Home & New Tankless Water Heater"

My water heater has a circulating pump. The pump system is wifi and I have an app on my phone. I worked with tech support to get is all set up. Very helpful and sort of easy. The system works very well and I am happy with it. My tankless WH is in the garage and we live on the 3rd floor. W/O the pump it took almost six minutes, now it's only about 15 seconds.

We have been in our new house since April. Occasionally when washing our dishes, the water will go cool ( only for a very short period of time ) ??

3 months I've owned a Noritz before but it was recirculation type and I miss that on this model. This was a new build with no options to upgrade. Hot water does take a while without recirculation feature. Over all nice product.

"Good product that only time will tell. Cut our gas bill easily in half. It needs to be stressed that the major installation issue is the gas line. You MUST have at least a 3/4" line. I put in a 1". Another thing is that the purpose and function of the little switches seems to be some sort of secret. Not a good translation or they really do want it to be secretive. Anyway it's working good. "

Mostly because I was very aware of the gas line issue before purchasing.

"Specialty product makes servicing more challenging"

Cccougar Jan 22, 2022

Like instant hot water, small profile of the unit, possibly lower energy costs(have not verified). Needed service because of an error code. Service tech was not familiar with the brand and could not service it. Our home warranty company told us we needed to have Rannai service it as the product is still under warranty (they did not take the time to clarify this the first time around, that’s an issue with them). However then Rannai wants to charge us to come out, even though it’s under warranty? The error code resolved itself but now there’s a knocking noise anytime the water heater kicks on. So far we are living with it…
