The process of choosing upgrades was very easy and transparent. The construction manager was great about communicating the progress of our build.
10/10 all around. Great warranty team, excellent sales team, construction 10/10, office team - eh... debatable ;) but that marketing team - exceeded all expectations
They treat us respect and integrity
Had issues that couldn’t be observed during final walk through such as leak in washer drain line and non-functional internet jack. Drain line was fixed. Internet jack not yet resolved

We were very impressed by the quality of the home. We especially loved the walkthrough that happened right before and the 14-day walkthrough that happened after we purchased the home. John was incredibly helpful and answered all of our questions. We'd happily recommend Hartford to anyone looking for a new home.

After building and living in two Hartford Homes we unfortunately can no longer recommend them. Yes, the build/construction quality in our current 2024 build better than our 2020 build but for a $700,000 home I expect more. Our 2020 single family alley load home in the Mosaic subdivision had numerous minor items that would be easily addressable during the construction process but after the completion of the build they are nearly impossible items to address. Items such as; studs that are so bowed the drywall screws pop through without doing anything to the wall, a wall that is so bowed and uneven you can look at it and see the wave, a master shower that we paid extra for a glass door and tile only to have the tile start to absorb water and change color, the floating LVP floor that in less than a year had to be repaired and showed significant signs of wear and what we can only assume are various electrical issues as our second floor laundry room had a stove outlet installed instead of a dryer outlet. The master shower issues were only found 3+ years in when we paid a contractor to replace our shower. Then we found not only were the tiles not installed correctly, the plastic shower pan was just placed on top of the sub floor, the hole for the drain was 3x the size it should have been and it was a large square, not a circle and the exterior wall of our shower had the studs marked green and the word SHIM written on the stud yet no shims were installed. The dryer outlet was discovered by the appliance company that was delivering and installing our dryer and Hartford had an electrician come and address the issue. The first floor LVP eventually broke in several places in the tongue and groove of the floor. When we brought this up to Hartford during our 11 month warranty period both Hartford and Shaw representatives came to look at the floor and said that it shouldn't get worse, it did, and if it did get worse to let them know, even if it was outside the warranty period and they would revisit the issue. When the floor got worse we contacted Hartford and were told we were out of our warranty and we were sent a one pager of the Shaw warranty, essentially we were on our own to replace nearly 1,000 sq ft of flooring that was less than 4 years old. We put all of these issues behind us and decided to build another home with Hartford in 2024. We were hopeful that given the build codes had been updated and that Hartford was increasing their quality given that this house was nearly $200,000 more than the home we built in 2020 but unfortunately that has not been the case. Some items of build quality have improved, the full house wrap, the windows seem to be slightly better, but there are several items that continue to unfortunately be the standard. We were unable to change the LVP floor and have the same Shaw flooring. Flooring which was damaged during our 1 week prior to close walk through that have a significant portion of the first floor being replaced after we moved in. Numerous other pieces of floor throughout the house that have scratches, dents, screw driver marks, cuts, chips, etc. that either cannot be repaired or have to be repaired with epoxy. Carpet which one month into living in the home still has pieces of carpet fiber that are coming up in all rooms. Numerous carpet tack strips that are so poorly placed that we step on them constantly. We paid extra for a kitchen backsplash, which was installed at a slight angle, so slight that its barely noticeable but it is noticeable, cut lines in the time that are not straight and inconsistent grout line thickness. Then the places where the tile meets the cabinet, which are chai latte colored, bright white caulk was used. We worked with Hartford on these issues some of which had to be addressed multiple times before we gave up trying to get them resolved. There were also numerous highly visible places where drywall had to be repaired which was handled and several places where the walls have visible stains or blemishes that are easily paintable. We now have to take on touch up paint to all rooms in a house that is only 6 weeks old. One new thing that has been done is installing a drain in the second story laundry room. This is great, except the drain isn't positioned for water to drain into it. Our drain is actually elevated, sloped up. We had a water leak in our second week, and because of our drain a small amount of water didn't go down the drain it went to the wall and under the LVP floor. Hartford warranty took care of this very quickly, addressing the mold that had formed, baseboard damage, etc. When we asked Hartford about the drain we were told that the drain is fine, essentially it's an emergency drain, i.e. several gallons of water on the floor. We felt like we were told, "We don't have to install the drain, so this is what you get." Even after replacing the floor in the laundry room the drain is still elevated so if a small amount of water gets on the floor it will actually push the water to the wall instead of down the drain.
Cody and Sloan at the Granary in Johnstown are amazing! Very fast response to questions and always available for information.
Great experience overall.
