Review of Overall Experience

My wife and I were very satisfied with our overall experience of selecting, purchasing and moving into our beautiful new home. Sales representative Erica Allen was always helpful and promptly answered all the questions we had during the purchase, lot selection and many other decisions. Due to Erica's professionalism and courtesy, we did not feel the need to be represented by an independent agent. Ronnie in the design showroom was very helpful and patient as we made all the necessary design choices. My wife made several follow-up calls and she was always pleasant and very positive. Our construction superintendent Max Guatzozon was outstanding throughout the five month process. He has a very friendly and pleasant demeanor and always made it clear he was going to be honest and answer all questions based on the facts. When we saw Max on the job site, he always assured us that even though it may not look like it, everything was on schedule and our home would be finished ahead of schedule. Max was true to his word and our home was actually completed three months ahead of initial predictions. The home was immaculate for our final inspection and we feel blessed and thankful to live in such a well built and beautiful home in a wonderful neighborhood. I would like to offer some constructive criticism regarding issues of upgraded options and the design process. When we went to the design center in Raleigh, we were very surprised we were expected to make all of the many choices in a four hour visit. We feel homebuyers should be told completing the design process in four hours is preferred but, it is perfectly acceptable to return with an appointment several times within the next two weeks. The tight deadline caused undo stress and anxiety when wanting to make the "perfect choices". Request for upgraded changes were met with much resistance and most were flatly denied. It is unusual in Moore County, NC to have access to natural gas. Our two prior homes relied on propane gas. With this fact, a former Mid South HOA president told me each Mc Kee home comes with a dual fuel HVAC system. I asked Erica Allen to confirm and she said the dual fuel system was not standard. I asked Ronnie if we can pay to upgrade the system and she stated that would not be possible. With that, I contacted the HVAC contractor and explained our desire to upgrade. The supervisor there was very helpful and said her company would gladly make the changes and my call was at a perfect time as she was ordering the equipment for our home. It was clear I would pay separately for the system upgrade. Several days later she called and said McKee overruled her and the change could not be made. She also said she was not supposed to even accept my inquiry phone call. We also wanted to eventually install a full house generator system to supplement our standard HVAC. Erica said McKee does not offer that upgrade so I contacted the electrical contractor and asked if it would be financially beneficial to prewire our home for the future whole house generator. He said it would save over $1,000 dollars and was very easy during the construction phase. Again, the contractor contacted McKee and "they" flatly denied my request. I have had an HVAC company come give an estimate to upgrade to dual fuel and the retro fit estimate was $6,500. The upgrade estimate during construction was estimated at $1,500. We feel the difference is an undo punishment for a very simple request. Especially when we were willing to pay for the upgrade. Lastly, we wanted to add several light switches and electrical outlets prior to the sheetrock installation. We again were told there can be no changes to the original electrical wiring diagrams. I'm not trying to be dramatic but feel overall, McKee Homes is caring and honest company but the rigidity and lack of offering straight forward enhancing options is out of character. These several issues and the flat denials were head scratchers for my wife and I and we always came back to "WHY NOT?"

We have been delighted with the service we have received from all involved in our relocation to a McKee Homes community. We think our home has great bones. Teri Worthington has been most attentive and helpful! Aubrey Murray was very responsive throughout the purchase. The home warranty is so reassuring! We look forward to learning more about the details of how things work, such as landscaping. We are also interested in understanding the future of HOA administration. A neighborhood gathering to introduce us and establish community would be nice. Overall, we feel blessed to have found HighRidge and look forward to our new chapter here. Many thanks to all at McKee for your commitment to above average quality and homeowner satisfaction.
