The floor plan, lot size and design options are great. The house seems very efficient. The construction manager was pleasant to work with though he seemed a bit lackadaisical about some of the things that were not quite done right.

Would Change

The house was a quick move-in and was not complete even though it was supposed to be. For example, the house had been complete for several months but did not have a gas meter attached which made testing of the appliances and fireplace impossible. The house was not clean when we moved in; there was copious dirt and dust everywhere. There are many areas in the home where lazy workmanship is evident in that the underside of the window casings are not painted in several rooms, the finishing is incomplete on baseboards, and the paint quality in many areas (doors, walls) is poor. Regardless of who was responsible for the house when it was first deemed complete, the current construction manager should have known what condition the house was in. The experience that made our experience with the office staff so bad is that we sent in our earnest money quickly as requested and our closing date was fairly close (about 2 weeks later). However, the DAY OF CLOSING, we were threatened with not getting our keys because the "deposit machine was broken" and Meritage had not deposited our check. We ended up having to send another wire that day from our bank that is in a different time zone because the office staff couldn't be bothered to make the deposit in a different way or COMMUNICATE to us that there was an issue and asking us with more lead time to send the money another way. That was absolutely ridiculous and is not the way you treat a customer especially when the problem is yours and not theirs. We moved to NC from NM with 2 small children and to have that occur was more stress than we needed to have. The sales office staff person was not very knowledgeable about the community or the status of the house. It would be nice if the community had more amenities. It only has a picnic pavilion which is not consistent with Meritage or other builder developments in the area.
