My overall experience was positive. Some of our concerns experienced delays; however, have been addressed. The most noticeable issue is electrical. We've experienced issues with tripping switches from outlets in the kitchen. I wouldn't expect electrical issues like those within a newly built home. We had to make improvements to electrical. This is an area I would not expect or anticipate within a newly built home. Electrical standards displayed are subpar.

The buying process was fairly smooth. There were a few instances where we felt communication was confusing/unclear. Because we were first time buyers we had a lot of questions about paperwork and felt that sometimes staff couldn’t get back to us as timely as we’d like. During the homeowner orientation, we found several things that we were told by the construction manager (Trevor) would be fixed before moving in. Some were, others were not. There was a substantial stain in the master shower that we were told would be cleaned before we got the keys. When we arrived for our appointment to get the keys, a different staff member (Austin) than the construction manager we had met was present. The shower had not been cleaned and one of the outlet covers had not been repaired. We were also told by Trevor that a professional cleaning crew would clean the house the morning we got the keys, but we don’t believe this occurred. There was still quite a bit of dirt/mud caked on the tile in some places, and paint splatter on tiles and in grout in nearly every room that we are still picking off. Austin assured us that the shower would be scheduled to be cleaned within a week, but this didn’t happen. We contacted him at least three other times and were told he would communicate with Trevor each time, yet 5+ weeks after move in no one had followed through. We eventually asked for the construction Trevor’s number directly because we weren’t given it initially, and learned he had been on vacation when we moved in so we assume this is how the ball was dropped. However, we are pretty frustrated at the inability to get follow through even after several assurances Austin was communicating with Trevor. We even called the warranty line and left a message that was never returned. Trevor has since fixed a few of the things we noticed were in need of repair since moving in, but we are still waiting on the shower. We don’t know when Trevor returned from vacation, but we were not able to personally speak with him until yesterday and since then he has been very proactive. We also found out we were supposed to have a Welcome Home meeting scheduled a while back, which was only set in motion yesterday when Trevor told us about it. Before that we didn’t know we had been missing out on this. Overall we are fairly pleased with our experience but communication between staff and follow through with us has been pretty egregious at times and has required a lot of legwork and persistence from us, which we have only had time for because we are educators and don’t work for parts of the summer. If we were working typical hours this summer I don’t believe our concerns would have been addressed. We love our home and would recommend Meritage to others for the amazing rate and great location but there are certainly improvements to be made. It seems that since Trevor was out of town when we closed, some steps were not completed and we were kind of forgotten about.

As a prior Lennar homeowner, moving out here we felt that Meritage was the way to go and boy we were right! Thank you especially to David for taking such good care of us and making us feel so welcome.
