Review of Overall Experience

Terrible. When we first started, I felt we had a good company and good sales person. But as the process went on, it was all downhill. Our in-house design person was rude and not helpful. When we had our preconstruction meeting, it was about a 10 minute call. The sales person originally said he would come to the property. Neither he, or the builder did. The builder was rude and said "I have only had your file since Sunday so I haven't had time to look at it." The meeting was on Thursday. We were assigned a new builder after that one left Tilson. I thought the build was going ok, until sheetrock to the end stage. The subcontractors were terrible. The sheetrock has nails still showing, the texture is sloppy - thick in some places and non-existent in others. The painting was a mess as well. We were called at the beginning of July 2023 that we were supposed to be closing in 2 weeks and needed to lock the rate. The house was no where close to being finished. Our builder assured us on our walkthrough (a few days before closing) that most everything would be fixed, but that Tilson has a 1 year warranty to fix things found after the fact. Not only were things still not fixed, when we got her after closing, someone had damaged the flooring in 2 places and dripped stain all over the floor and still not completed with all of the other things. We worked with the builder and my husband, who works from home, was interrupted many times, only to find out that when I saw the work that was to "fix" something, it was worse, or still not in an acceptable condition. September 25th, I decided to email the builder (I informed her in advance of my email) and her regional manager with a 3 page punchlist I had made of all the items still needing to be fixed. The manager had someone at the house the next day or day after, and some things got fixed, but others still had to re-done 2 or 3 times (paint and texture, and my front door/frame/sidelites). I told them in my email "Thank you for having your handyman come help with the punch list on our house. I have put off doing the Tilson survey but I really feel Tilson needs to know how disappointed we are with the cabinet maker and finisher team. The sheetrock, moulding, caulking, texturing, and painting quality are a 0 out of 10. I am embarrassed to have people see this quality in a Tilson home, and at the price we paid, to have this low quality is unacceptable. When we looked at your model homes, we expected the same quality when building ours. So when we moved into our house, we were extremely disappointed with the lack of pride that subcontractors took to build our house. There is no way that Tilson would have put our house as a model with it looking like this. The work that the people did on our door is outrageous and cost Tilson so much having to replace everything. Thank you for agreeing to replace the door, frame and all messed up areas. I'm looking forward to a door that closes and looks good. If you need pictures of anything, please let me know. I don't think I'm being picky on any of these items. I would have loved for you and your manager to come see the house so no other homeowner has to go through the frustration we have had with the subcontractors that Tilson entrusted to build our "dream" home. Thank you for your help to make this home one that we will be proud to live in through our retirement." Since then, we have been pushed aside. I'm so disappointed that this build is still lingering after 5 months from closing. We should have held off closing but were pushed into doing it while being assured that our things would be fixed. Over the past month, the front door was reinstalled and it has 2 different stains, so I'm not happy with that. McCoys has delivered strips to go around the sidelites twice, but still not fixed. The first time they were too short. The second time, they only sent a set for one side of the sidelites. I have complained about the framing around the door and assured it would be fixed, but I am doubtful. They are not replacing the wood that has had so many gouges and holes in it. My new door wont close properly which is what started the original door problems. The builder and contractor said the framing was incorrect. But instead of fixing that (would require the stucco to be repaired and the base to be fixed, we are starting at the same place we were before. At what point will this ever be resolved? I have been holding off my review so I could give a good one and say that Tilson came in and made everything better, but it's been 5 months. I want to be proud of my home and I'm not. Every time I turn around I see more flaws in the walls or things that still haven't been fixed. I was hoping my home could be a showcase home like the ones on the facebook feed, but there is NO WAY anyone would approve this if it was a Tilson showcase. I want someone to please come look at this home and tell me what can be done to fix things and get them done soon. I will take off of work so my husband doesn't have to deal with all of the interruptions, but unless you walk though the house, you really don't know how bad it is. Let me know if you need pictures or copies of the punchlist that I sent before. Unfortunately there have been more things that I would like fixed, but why bother. Tilson doesn't seem to care.

Everyone would talk about Tilson how great they are and how the homes they build are of great quality. However we got the whole opposite. Building a custom home of such quality shouldn’t involve such work and headaches from the customer and from our experience it was that and more.

Review of Overall Experience

This was our first building experience. Long distance designing was the only challenging part as the sales associate was retiring and not good with the remote tools. I think we could have done better there. Otherwise, very happy with the process. Generally good communication and great build.

Review of Overall Experience

Overall, the experience was great! Eric (sales) and Jonathan (site supervisor) were very responsive and on top of everything. My only complaint was that we found a mistake in the electrical plans at the end of the build, and it was unable to be corrected because of how the electrical was laid out. So now I have one switch that does nothing and one switch that powers two different light sources.
