Review of Overall Experience

Initially, the experience was good. We worked with Jason. Jason wasn’t very responsive to emails and did take a lot of time to get back to us. However, other than that, it was a good experience. The process. Was not straightforward. We had many changes to our house in modifications, which took numerous change orders, the house Incorporated, the change order as well however, after we moved in, we saw many issues with workmanship and cleanliness. Upon move-in, our house was dusty had silicone smears in numerous areas was not clean properly even though Jonas said the cleaners come three times(if that’s the case, they are not good cleaners). There was grout and silicone on all counters that we had to scrape off. Drywall dust along walls at the bottom where the cleaners didn’t go along the baseboards, on top of light fixtures, and debris in cabinets and drawers. The top of the washing machine was scratched up a lot probably due to someone placing their tools on it and not being careful. The stairs going to the basement were so dirty with mud and caked in dirt that it took two hours to clean them, I recognize that the cleaners may not have had that in their scope, but someone should have at least cleaned them so it didn’t take two hours of scrubbing. Backing up to the process of how we gain possession of our house was brutal. We told Steven by email with our Realtor CCed numerous times that I would not be able to make the time he told us for closing date. We told him that our realtor would be there to accept the key as we live in Kelowna and driving through the mountains in winter can be and was icy on December 19 when we took possession. Still 2 1/2 hours out on the highway and icy conditions. I received notice that my realtor said they were going to leave for the day and I could get possession on Monday, the money had already exchanged hands so technically the residence was ours. Although I tried my best with icy roads and two dogs with plants in a car I was unable to get there before they left the show home to get my keys. They would not give them to our Realtor, although that was completely discussed prior and we had to scramble in -20+ to figure out how I was going to get into the house luckily we got the garage door code and I got in that way so that I didn’t have to find a dog friendly hotel with underground parking that was heated, so things wouldn’t die. I was beyond upset. Steven helped in the long run, but Jonah stopped answering his phone. What should’ve happened was communication by Stephen and Jonah to let us know of a time where we could actually make it to collect the keys, we don’t live in the area and had to fly in even for the inspection one week prior, we found that there was no wiggle room and no mercy for any of our schedules. There were many times that we had to follow the schedule of Broadview that would not be accommodating to us, and had to fly in to adhere to the schedule or drive like a maniac on icy roads. For instance, we were in Europe for our son’s wedding, which fell in the time. Where the rough and walk-through would be done, we had told Steven where we would be and he said that we could connect with him when we got back and do the rough walk-through, this was not the case we never did a rough walk-through as they said they couldn’t wait. Fair enough, however that needs to be communicated right off the bat. This seems to be the process for a lot of the items where we would communicate something get denied because the schedule had to be maintained and had to adhere to the Broadview schedule. That would’ve been all fine and good if the house was ready when it was supposed to be ready in November, it was a month late. I recognize that I have done a lot with what we’re not happy with above, but we are happy with our Jonas understanding of our house and how it worked, the warranty people that came in and set up one day of time where all the trades would come in and do their work, and most of the house as a whole. More than happy to have a conversation on all of this if you would like.

Review of Overall Experience

This was a big improvement over my experience with my previous homes (built by others). It was a refreshing buying experience and the quality remained after I purchased the home. Broadview has been very responsive to warranty issues and get them fixed in a timely matter. That being said, there weren't many fixes as the home was built with quality.
